A pharmacist discusses magnesium
In today's Monday medal video, we address the question, can magnesium supplementation reduce the frequency of premature atrial contractions (PACs)? Tomorrow I will post his recommendations for selecting magnesium.

Fascinating information. When I was recently hospitalized for Dofetilide loading they gave me on two days in a row Magnesium IV drips. Each one took two hours. When I had asked the doctor why I needed this he stated I was borderline on my levels. They wanted to ensure during Dofetilide loading that I was optimal I guess. When leaving the hospital I brought up during my outbrief should I be supplementing Magnesium as I guess my diet must not be sufficient or maybe because I have been on PPI (Protonix) for a long time due to gut irritation caused by blood thinners. So they did give me a script of 400mg of Magnesium Oxide tablet taken daily. I have noticed in the past 7 weeks no leg cramps, regularity especially with 2 tsp of Metamucil than I have in quite some time. I guess there is some connection. I do not have PVC or PAC to my knowledge

Sam, I am so glad that you are doing better. I know what you mean. After being in the hospital or having an extended layabout, I too want to get back in shape and that is when I set myself back. I have learned to listen more to my doctors and the other experts. Just be patient and keep doing what you are and I hope the tendonitis gets better without surgery. Hugs🤗

CarynWebb,

Thanks for the reply on Magnesium. You are absolutely right that when we age I guess our small intestine (responsible for taking minerals/nutrients) to the body doesn't do the trick as well as when we were younger. I can say I have been feeling much better not having cramps in my legs, amongst other things. The tendonitis issues in my left leg and calf and foot and toe is probably not due to the dofetilide but rather my active lifestyle. I spent those 5 days in hospital loading the dofetilide and I remember the nurse telling me to just take it easy for awhile. So instead of following his advice on the third day after release I was doing half mile walks, stretches with resistance bands and just stretches all over as I had weakness from the hospital. I think I may have tried to get back into shape too quickly. Now I have tendinitis in my middle toe and per the doctor it's gonna take awhile for that to go away, if it persists he can cut the toe tendon to relieve the pain. I will just keep icing it and doing stretches and wearing the toe crest when it hurts.🙂

@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member You are so welcome. I found this very interesting and I take it every day now and a bit more since May to help stop the PACs and ectopic beats and it is working like a charm. I sleep better now too, which was the original reason I started taking magnesium.
