How Concerned Should I Be About Angina?
I am an open-heart, and 2nd heart attack survivor. I am on a variety of meds that keeps my heart rate in the 70's when resting. Recently, I have been experiencing a non significant (dull pain) in my chest - while HR remains in the 70's - occasionally I do experience short, sharp stabby pains. If the dull pain is persistent, I take nitro & it does help. This has been going on for about 48 hours and I do not see my new General Practitioner until Feb 2023- my cardiologist's office always passes… read more
I wanted to update my answer because I was thinking about this. Nurses, and doctors are only as good as their training, or the experiences they have. Reading and researching only takes you so far. In nursing school, I was taught that unless your pain was like a literal elphant on your chest, then you were ok. I observed many nurses from many institutions and states who felt the same thing. I talked to several nurses recently and asked them what they think heart pain feels like, and they always believe its something so awful, that you are dropping to the floor in agony. I think that the medical field needs to catch up with reality.
You know your body better then anyone else. Don't take chances lf you feel something isn't right betterto get it check out.
I was totally ignored by the staff at one of the local hospitals here when I went in with AF going on. One Dr even told me my symmetry was beautiful so nothing was wrong with my heart. I finally went to the other hospital which is where I had my open heart surgery. They specialize in heart there. They listened and called in my EP cardio man... even at that, because of the pandemic it was 6 more months before I could be put into out patient for the cathe to diagnose the problem and treat it. I went through hell for almost a year with it. The final diagnosis was atypical atrial fibrillation.
So I hear you loud and clear friend. If you keep having it...keep going back until someone takes you seriously!
Verda……I would seriously consider getting a different Cardiologist……she doesn’t deserve you as a patient. I suffered from angina something terrible. The pain was really bad. My cardiologist has me on a pill every 12 hours for chest pain…..thank God…..I now like with without the pain…..so grateful!!!!!!!
Verda…….with your history……that may be why she suggest the ER when you get chest pain. I may had been a bit hasty in my answer……..not thinking about your history when I said to possible switch heart doctors. If the nitro does help…..it sounds like she has you covered
