Short Of Breath

A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

I weigh every day to see if I am retaining fluid. Weight has stayed the same for a month but still short of breath. Haven’t taken diuretics for a month or so.
I see cardiologist in a few months.
Does anyone have any suggestions for sob other than fluid?

Shortness of breath is a common symptom of heart disease. Here are some key points from the knowledge base:

- Heart Failure: In advanced heart disease, the heart may not pump blood effectively, leading to breathlessness.
- Ejection Fraction: A lower ejection fraction (percentage of blood pumped out with each contraction) can worsen shortness of breath.
- Respiratory Conditions: Conditions like COPD can exacerbate breathlessness in those with heart disease.
- Treatments: Some heart disease treatments can cause shortness of breath as a side effect.
- Management: Cardiac rehabilitation and reducing smoking can help manage symptoms.

I also have shortness of breath. I can even get it from talking to much. Usually it is a sign that I might faint soon but I am constantly surprised how easily it happens. My cardi said he wanted me to drink 3 liters of water a day. I was not aware it helps with 'sob'.

Rob,

I too suffer from SOB and wish I could help. I have seen the specialist's such as Allergy, Pulmonologist, sleep study, heart cath's, Psychiatrist, physical therapy all prior to medication I take now. Still don't have an answer, but feel it has something to do with anxiety. Was sure it was from y years of smoking but it isn't. My problem is can't take a deep breath when I want to. Shallow breathing. Came on when I turned 66yo. I am 70 now. I was put on Chlorthalidone for hypertension. One month later my heart went into AFIB. Now I take Beta Blocker, blood thinner and proton pump inhibitor to prevent GI bleed. All I do is try to take it easy, exercise, maintain a healthy diet. Wish I could provide you with a better answer. Hope you find an answer soon
