Recovery from coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) varies by individual. Here are some key points from the knowledge base:

- Initial Recovery: After surgery, you will spend 1-2 days in the ICU and an additional 3-5 days in the hospital.
- Full Recovery: Typically, you can return to work and normal activities after about six weeks.
- Long-term Outlook: Most people feel better for 10 to 15 years post-surgery.
- Cardiac Rehabilitation: Often recommended to strengthen the heart.
- Lifestyle Changes: Important to lower cholesterol, manage weight, control diabetes, stop smoking, reduce dietary fat, and exercise to prevent further complications.

CABG does not cure the underlying coronary artery disease, and arteries can become clogged again over time.

I had 5 bypasses 32 years ago. I guess I don’t understand your question, fully recover to where you were just before surgery or some years before that. I had more energy after surgery than I did before. I could do everything I could do before surgery but felt better doing it. Was I as good as I was when I was in my 20’s, no. But I felt as good or better than I did in my 40’s just before surgery.
