A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

How common are PVCs, PACs, Ectopic heartbeats, NSVT, and Bigminy...in otherwise completely healthy normal people? In this video, Dr Sanjay Gupta from York Cardiology, UK gives us some answers and some statistics.

This video was recorded in 2018 so ignore the bits about being in NY and York seminars.

Magnesium does not aid all arrythmias and everyone's doctor should be doing blood work to check your balances of all necessary chemicals. I take a multi every day and eat my "leafy greens", nuts and whole grains.

I have Paroxysmal AFIB. I also go Tachy-Brady per one Doctor I saw last week, who stated he could not increase beta blocker. So, now I take an Antiarrhythmic (dofetilide) medication to maintain sinus rhythm. Got some side effects I hope to overcome as I have only been taking it for one week.

My Magnesium was prescribed by the doctor at the hospital and got it from their pharmacy Magnesium Oxide 400mg. I have a subscription to Consumer Lab which is an independent lab. $60.00 a year for the subscription which has helped me with daily vitamin and other products I use.

Peggy, Actually for most of us it is not life-threatening. PACs can cause be a precursor to AFIB but In the case of PACs, the rare time that they cause a problem is when they are so frequent in number that they start to weaken the heart muscle. You are correct when talking about PVCs. However, most PVCs are common and are considered benign in the absence of structural heart disease. If you have structural heart disease it can be fatal. Thanks for listening to the video and taking the time to make such thoughtful comments. That is why I share these things to get us all talking about this stuff. One thing to keep in mind magnesium can actually help stop these ectopic arrhythmias so it might be worth asking our doctors about this. In my case, Magnesium Glycinate has completely stopped the ectopic arrhythmias and PAC and that is a really welcome result! Hugs🤗
