I Have Just Been Told That My ICD Is Not Helping My Heart.

And that it is my heart that is the problem, not the device. I didn't even know that was a thing! Has anyone else been hit with this?

Hello Shelley, I had to have an ICD implanted in 2019 after an artery dissection, which caused surgery and a low EF (HF), my cardiologist said an ICD only gave me protection from a dangerous irregular heartbeat and that it would not increase my EF, only meds, diet changes, exercises, being stress free, etc. My EF was 15 percent in 2019 and now 40 percent after 3 years, still HF, but did increase and didn't decrease, I continually Pray for more increase. I hope your heart situation improves for you. I can relate to you. Take Care.

Same here, heart is too weak 20 EF, CRT-D will not improve it but there to jump start me if I go into cardiac arrest. I have been following a regimented well care program - diet, exercise and rest. I'm trying to make the heart as strong as I can in its condition. So, don't focus on the CRT-D, try to live well and happy and do some cardio rehab and you will feel much better. Take good care of yourself!

My cardiologist gave me a more detailed explanation. My ICD is called CRT, Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Defibulator. There is a 3rd lead that is meant to improve and coordinate the rhythm of a weak left ventricle. My heart is not responding to that function enough to help. Much more information than "your heart is not responding to your device!"
Thank you for your support
