Mary,
The total cholesterol is made up of LDL,HDL and (Triglycerides divided by 5). I would guess over the holidays if you had any sweets (cake, pies, baked goods) just diet in general maybe the culprit and our weather here has taken me more indoors than outside and my daily walks are now using a stationary bike. Doesn't take much to get those numbers up. This of course is just my opinion. Discuss with your doctor and maybe get a referral to a dietician who can help you with understanding what foods contribute to the increase. keep a good thought.
