Did You Know? The Mediterranean Diet Is Good For Your Heart Health

Did you know? The heart-healthy Mediterranean Diet ranks #1 out of diets and this is its 7th year! I prefer to be a vegetarian/vegan but once a week I will eat fish such as salmon and include fresh herbs like thyme, spices like pepper, and fresh salmon. As I write it bakes. As the author of the popular Healing Powers series -- based on this diet -- I recommend the diet. I have stayed lean, never hungry, and you get a nice balance of superfoods.

Yes, the Mediterranean diet is indeed good for heart health. According to the knowledge base, the Mediterranean diet is an example of a heart-healthy diet. It includes:

- Healthy fats found in olive oil, avocado, nuts, and fish.
- Lean proteins like fish (e.g., mackerel and salmon), skinless chicken, tofu, and eggs.
- Fruits and vegetables — at least five per day.
- Legumes like black beans and lentils, and nuts.
- Low-fat or fat-free dairy products.

This diet helps in lowering blood pressure, reducing blood cholesterol levels, preventing future cholesterol buildup in blood vessels, aiding in weight loss or maintaining a healthy weight, and managing other risk factors for heart problems.

Cardio doc will indeed give thumbs up. Seventh yr. of being voted as the best diet. Definitely heart healthy. My demise? Genes. But I'm doing fish, no sugar, no transfats. Keep in mind, it's more challenging fighting genes than a redo on your diet.

I am thinking that I am going to check out the Mediterrean diet. Or at least ask the cardiologist if it is okay for me to eat it.

I’m an animal lover too. Years ago we had tanks with different species of fish and as a hobby and on occasion raised Angel fish. We also tried Discus, they are beautiful but we found those difficult to breed. Please don’t feel guilty eating fish, humans are on the top of the food chain but for this privilege I do believe we are also entrusted with being stewards for the animals. That would entail the responsibility to treat them with kindness, humanely and slaughter as quick and painless as possible. Unfortunately our factory farms and slaughter facilities are horribly cruel. Also the meat for our consumption is contaminated with antibiotics in the feed as required for the crowded factory conditions. I don’t eat meat with the exception of fish such as salmon and humanely raised chicken. Glad you’re doing so much better with the Mediterranean diet. You’re an inspiration to others who are genetically predisposed to various ills.

Yes, some fish is not good due to mercury...However, I need the protein. Got my muscles back, definition, hair shiny, nails all one length...I have an aquarium and feel guilty eating my fish friends but...genes got my heart.
