I have the same Alabama State Insurance and am on Medicare for 10 yrs. My state insurance pays almost all the doctors, hospital and other like rehab. I was worried when the state went from BC/BS to United Health Care. However United pays better than BC/BS so we are happy with it. Medicare is the primary and the other, like United, pays almost all with a small co-pay.
Yes, this is why I am losing the drug coverage I had as a State worker and am being flipped to Medicare. Not sure it will be to my advantage in the long run, but we have been given no choice unless we want to go private. With those plans being cut way back it isn't worth the risk. I have received so many calls from private insurers it is annoying. They must have gotten the employees list somewhere. Since the drug plan was free to employees with 30 years in & otherwise pro-rated, I will most likely be paying more no matter what. We tried for years in court but no go. We were told it was guaranteed which is why many stayed at the job for so long. So much for believing what anyone in the government has to say.
