The Interaction and Treatment of Aortic Valves and Aortic Aneurysms

Aortic valve disease and aortic aneurysms often coexist, creating a complex clinical scenario that requires careful management. The interaction between these two conditions can complicate the surgical approach, as treating the aneurysm without compromising the function of the aortic valve is crucial. Throw in a bicuspid aorta and thats me prior to my valve replacement and soon to be aneurysm. Approaching 4 month post-op, today I was out cleaning up from hurricane Helene. Chainsaw, dragging limbs, piling slash in a burn pile. WITHOUT TIRING OR BEING SHORT OF BREATH. My biggest problem weakness from is muscular atrophy resulting from disuse.

Joe, I am sorry that you were in the path of this recent hurricane. I hope you get help with the clean-up. It's a testament to your recovery and improved health that you can do this physical work without tiring or being short of breath. The muscles will continue to come back. The damage Helene has done is mind-boggling. I am praying for all who have been affected by this massive storm.

@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member, muscular atrophy is a very valid point I haven’t thought about in years. With sports injury like a knee docs measure the calf and thigh and don’t clear the patient until the knee is better and muscle recovered. An athlete in shape can loose an inch or more of thigh diameter in 2 weeks.

No other doctor has mentioned this or taken measurements. I guess PT is part of this some recovery.

@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member Amazing! you are doing so well. Atrophy is a big problem if you don't use your muscles. So even if we can't exercise like we want, we need to keep moving in any way that we can. Good for you doing so well and no SOB!
