I had very bad itchiness for 6 months and the Dr told me it couldn't be from Eliquis but I couldn't take it and went back on Coumadin and no more itching.

Eliquis (apixaban) can cause various skin problems, including allergic reactions like rash, itching, hives, and potentially serious swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Skin Reactions and Symptoms:
Allergic Reactions:
Eliquis can trigger allergic reactions, ranging from mild skin rashes and itching to severe reactions like hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing.
Skin Rash:
Eliquis can cause a skin rash, which may appear as a red, itchy, or bumpy skin eruption.
Itching:
Itching (pruritus) is another potential skin side effect of Eliquis, potentially related to allergic reactions or other underlying causes.
Swelling:
Eliquis can cause swelling under the skin, often in areas like the eyelids, lips, hands, or feet.
Purpura:
In rare cases, Eliquis can cause skin purpura, a condition characterized by purple or red spots on the skin due to bleeding under the skin.
Drug Eruptions:
Eliquis has been linked to drug eruptions, including psoriasiform eruptions (skin changes resembling psoriasis).
How to Manage Skin Problems:
Mild Symptoms:
If you experience mild symptoms like a rash or itching, you can try over-the-counter treatments like antihistamines or hydrocortisone cream.
Severe Reactions:
If you experience severe allergic reactions, such as swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, or severe skin reactions, seek immediate medical attention.
Discontinuation of Eliquis:
In severe cases, your doctor might recommend discontinuing Eliquis and switching to a different medication.
If you experience any skin problems while taking Eliquis, it's crucial to contact your healthcare provider or pharmacist immediately. They can assess your symptoms, determine the underlying cause, and recommend appropriate management strategies.
