WHY? Why Do Doctors Lie? For Over Two Years I've Been On Xaralto 20mg. Told It Was The Lowest Dose. It's Not!

A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭
Canton, OH

Had a bacterial infection [3 different bacteria] from a non sterile suture, per Doctor, replace hardware only keeping the shoulder anchor. Bleeding wouldn't stop so I stopped the Xaralto and healing began. I'm ready to find a new, my third, Cardiologist!

@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member,
You are right back to where we've started.
When a doctor tells you it is the lowest dose he is telling you it is the lowest therapeutic dose for you. Our meds are determined according to our height weight and medical conditions. A therapeutic dose for you would not be a therapeutic dose for me. And my allergic reactions to the meds change the way in which a med is taken. Case and point the difference in the dosing of meds from my mom to me. I'm under weight and my mom is over weight. We both took only one of the same meds. And we take them for different reasons. My mom had a mild HA when I was 13 and was hospitalized for two months. She was given simvastatin at its lowest dose after my heart attack because we both saw the same doctor and the familiar aspects came into play. I started on 80mg and it had to be cut in half. I had a better tolerance of simvastatin then the other statins. Mom and I were taking the same dose. 80mg was the lowest dose at the time. After 3 months my dose was lowered to 40mg and I had to get a pill spliter. 2 two years later I was having a reaction to that dose. And the pill spliter still needed as my doses was dropped to 20mg and my mom's was cut to 40. Her weight kept her at that dose. I don't take it for cholesterol as I don't have that problem, but I take it for my spasmodic artery disease it helps to stop them from collapsing. Although my mom was heavy and didn't have a cholesterol problem it was for prevention as we both have a microvascular disorder.
We doctors say lowest dose they are referring to the lowest therapeutic dose for you. We are not all the same. Our doctors give us the lowest therapeutic dose for the individual and it doesn't mean the lowest dose made. They have been adjusting my statin dose again from 20 to 10 mg because I'm having a reaction again. I keep telling you there is no one size fits all.

I wouldnt confront anyone......who needs the stress? What will it accomplish?Nothing. I would let your insurance company know, and let them get you another group and Dr that accepts your insurance with glowing reviews.

Jim, I am so sorry you had to go through all of this. I know you will be confronting the doctor as you should. Take care of yourself now and be sure to question the next doctor before you fill the prescription or ask the pharmacist, they can help. ❤️

It sounds like you've been through a lot, and it's understandable to feel frustrated. Xarelto 20mg is not the lowest dose; there are lower doses like 10mg or 15mg, often prescribed based on individual needs such as kidney function or bleeding risk. Stopping Xarelto without medical advice can be risky, so it's crucial to Show Full Answer

Hi Jim…..Glad you have resolved the bleeding issue. I would confront the Cardiologist that told you Xarelto was the lowest doseage your takeing. You do have to be careful though by stopping the Xarelo……you don’t need a stroke or a heart attack. Good Luck with your doctor 👍🏻
