My wife went through mitral valve repair two years ago! The Dr in St Luke’s hospital in Milwaukee, Wi.
He mitral valve prolapse was severe. The Dr when he went in decided ( through her Right side by he breast area) that she had to pick a replacement valve if he couldn’t repair her damaged one. He was able to repair her valve an inserted a mitral clip. She still has a minor leak but it is insignificant.

When was your surgery? Did you get more than one opinion? What state do you live in?

I had Mitral Valve repair about 10 years ago. My repair is working great just a minimal leakage. It is a big, open heart surgery. When I had surgery it was a 50-50 chance I would need s valve replacement. I begged my surgeon and cardiologist for just the repair! I still don’t think I could stand hearing the clicking every time my heartbeat.
It is a big, open heart surgery so be prepared. Make sure you get a surgeon that your cardiologist recommends. Your heart doesn’t hurt after surgery at all, however your chest and rib cage gonna hurt! Pain medicine will work just fine. Don’t let them try and con you into just takings Tylenol, that won’t cut it. It took a little bit of time to recover from the surgery but my heart was doing great even while the surgery site was a little sore. My scar goes down in the middle of my chest but the surgeon was an artist and used surgical super glue and the scar is just a little line it looks like cleavage!
I enjoyed joking with x-ray technicians when I have to have the usual chest x-rays that I have a monogrammed heart. My last name starts with a C and when the x-ray comes out, there is the C!
Keep us posted!!Aloha Ke Akua,
