Low Blood Pressure

A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question šŸ’
Wilmington, NC

I've been in HF for almost 2 years...everything I see concerns people with high blood pressure...I have the opposite problem..low blood pressure, I get out of breath by just walking across a room. Anyone else have a problem with low blood pressure?

Hi,
My BP normally runs low, but I have both high and low BP and am medicated for both. I suffered an AMI/ STEMI widowmaker with massive irreversible progressive damage. I have HFrEF, Chronic systolic congestive heart failure, Ischemic cardiomyopathy, Syncope and and a few other things.
After my AMI I was sent to cardiac rehab, there you are taught how to work with your heart and the things you can do to build up your resistance and the thing that break your system down. I am a survivor of 12 years.
Take care,
Robin

I do not, but from my brief research it looks like low BP is a challenging point for HFrEF treatment. It was recommended that a HF specialist should be consulted before Dr's try reducing some of the drugs that benefit HF most, since they drop BP.
I think this is because most HF patients are on a large cocktail of drugs it takes alot of skill to find the risk reduction balanced with symptoms.
We do all have different responses and side effects to medicines; maybe there is still hope that a balance that works for you can be found.

My BP and fluid create problems for me. If my fluid is controlled, then my BP gets low, so we're constantly juggling meds.
It's not uncommon for me to get out of breath just walking a few feet. I have to be really careful. It's part of the disease.

I have both hypotension and hypertension it's all a part of my having heart issues. I've been in stage D of CHF since my AMI/ STEMI. Your doctor should be monitoring you as to what is you best course of action. No two people are the same and your doctor should be working on what is the best combination of medication of meds. Ialso am extremely sensitive to medication. I just had my meds increased and not only did one not help my problem but it created another problem. And now I'm dealing with an equilibrium problem. My cardiologist removed it from my drug formulary. Your doctors are your main course of action and you need to open a good line of communication with them, they can't help what they don't know and it may require your calling for an appointment for that issue.
