Can You Feel When Pacemaker Is Activated?

A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭
New Orleans, LA

Has anyone experienced their pacemaker being activated? I recently had a defibrillator inserted with two leads, one lead is for pacemaker. Last night I could feel my heartbeat but it was a bit unusual. So I am guessing it might be because of the pacemaker.

I did not have anything happen with it for a long time. I first had it put in in 2002. I did not have it start to fire off often until 2020. At that time I found out that I had a buildup of scar tissue in my heart and it was causing my heart to race and make the device fire off so I had an ablation and haven't had anything happen since then.

Thank for sharing your details. As bad as it sounds, I imagine not having it would result in worse outcomes. Keeping my fingers crossed that I will be as lucky as you at surviving the experience. Best wishes you in 2023.

More then likely what you have felt was an abnomally your heart is doing ... When it fires there is no mistaking if you have been hit ... I've been 27 times last year the first time in Jan and it was three years after having it placed the second time in July the last time in Nov totaliñg altogether 27 hits ... It is a powerful walope and when your hit you black out a little getting hit 17 times in a row had my on my knees but the first time it fired was six hits it did not take me down but I was walking in circles at work not knowing what to do my boss took me to the hospital ... The time it fired and I hit,17 times I was out for a walk and it laid me out beside the road and NO ONE STOPPED TO HELP until the ambulance pulled up then someone pulled over to watch the last time my roommates where there and I had to beg them to call 911 make sure you around people you trust with your life because people just do not care these days
