Can anyone tell me about ICD's, if you have problems
My son has shortness of breath, went I and had a Eco. They found a electrical problem in his heart. He was put on meds and asked to come back in 3 months. He did and had another Eco on his heart. His EF was 40 the first time, this time it was below 30. They are doing another Eco in 3 months. Put him on different meds for congestive heart failure. Told him this didn't help the want to put in a ICD. I was told this Friday night. I need help… read more

I had a cardiac arrest 12/18/21 in a Walmart parking lot, coding blue there, on the way to ER, and on the way to the hospital. Just this year I had 6 TEE’s (transesophageal echocardiogram) where they insert a probe along with a transducer down ur throat that provides superior images of the heart to give a precise assessment of ur heart than a TTE( which gives you a good view of ur overall heart health seeing how ur heart beats and check for any heart issues).Sarah what meds was he put on after his first TTE. So after 3 months his 2nd TTE was done again his EF dropped to less than 30 and what new meds where given to him? Now they want u to wait 3 more months for another one???? I’ll tell u what!! No way in hell would that be acceptable for me!! My question to him is why are you waiting 3 months and why not a TEE?? Good luck!! Keeping you and ur son in my prayers

Maybe this explanation of what an EF means will help you understand better. Quote: "What is normal EF on echocardiogram?
The measurement is listed as an ejection fraction, or EF. Normal EF results range between 55 and 65 percent. Numbers below 45 percent indicate some decrease in the pumping strength, while numbers below 30 percent indicate a major decrease. Heart failure can occur when the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the needs of your body. "

So your son's heart is barely pumping to give the rest of his body the oxygen supply he needs. I'm surprised they want to wait another three months. Does congestive heart failure run in your family? Sounds like even though he has taken good care of himself he has maybe inherited it from former relatives. My problems are genetic... I've traced the CHF back to my great grandmother on my dad's side. She actually passed away from endocarditis. Please update as your son's treatment progresses. Modern medicine is wonderful so don't lose hope for him! Prayers going up for you both.
