What Is A Heart Cath?
According to the Mayo Clinic, "Cardiac catheterization (kath-uh-tur-ih-ZAY-shun) is a procedure in which a thin, flexible tube (catheter) is guided through a blood vessel to the heart to diagnose or treat certain heart conditions, such as clogged arteries or irregular heartbeats. Cardiac catheterization gives doctors important information about the heart muscle, heart valves, and blood vessels in the heart." During the procedure, doctors can do a number of tests and or treatments. It is usually done quickly and there is a very low risk of complication. I have had numerous catheterizations in my lifetime it really is no big deal. You will usually be awake during this procedure but will be given medication to help you relax. If you want to read a little more this is the article from the Mayo Clinic. Also if you search on the questions I know others have asked this before and you can read the responses. When is your procedure scheduled? https://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/car...
