I had one placed in left chest. My electrophysiologist did a really neat job with the incision, he glued the cut and placed a clear tape over the area. It healed really nice since he did such a clean job. It hurt for a week or two then pain went away, but it was bothersome for a month or so. I think it wasn't til a few months when I finally didn't feel it too much. Mine has three leads and I actually feel those at times. I play tennis and I did not touch the racquet til about a year. My doctor scared the heck out of me explaining the work and damage that will take place if I rip a lead out. So I listened! It's about 3 years now, I have to hold my hand on it when I cut grass on the ride on mower. The bouncing up and down feels like it going to fall out of place. Other than that it has not been too bad. Oh yeah, I'm back to playing tennis now!
I had an ICD . It goes in the left side under the collar bone. After surgery you can't lift anything over 5lbs. or lift left arm above shoulder.
The healing time varies by person. My heal time was about 3 weeks.
