Diastolic heart failure, also known as heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. It is a condition in which your heart’s main pumping chamber (left ventricle) becomes stiff and unable to fill properly. When this happens your heart cannot properly relax between beats and does not fill with as much blood as it should. This results in symptoms of heart failure. You can feel short of breath, especially when lying flat, that includes coughing and wheezing. The lack of oxygen can also make you dizzy. You are tired all the time no matter how much you rest. You can experience fluid retention (edema) in your legs, feet, and abdomen. These symptoms can worsen over time. Right now, there is no good treatment for the stiff heart and the best we can hope for is that we can keep it from getting worse by exercising as much as we can and keeping a handle on how much salt we ingest and often how much fluid we drink. The only medication that helps is diuretics (water pills) which help the body rid itself of excessive fluid build-up. The downside to this is frequent urination. As time has gone on I have experienced a decreased tolerance to exercise (even though I do as much as I can it is less than I used to do) and I find that I have accepted the fatigue and have adjusted my life so that I don things early in the day when I have more energy and rest in the later afternoon and evening when I don't. Some days are better than others and I take advantage of the good days.

This is what i have, my heart beats 80 to 100 beats per min. And i also have a heart murmer which ive had all my life. My feet and lower legs swell if im on them for long periods, I get out of breath easily if walking a long way. I take Carbudilol and Lysynapril also a baby asprin. I take my meds twice a day. I also drink Ensure twice a day for building my heart muscles . Im always sleepy... But this has only started about a year ago so im 70 years old and have been in good health until this past year... So i think im pretty lucky to have this as my only problem.😊
