What Is Considered A Good Score On An Echo?
I saw my cardiologist last week and he had me do an Echo. He called me yesterday and told me that the echo was good and was better than the last one (18 months ago). I checked my app and it said the LVEF was 45%. The echo from 18 months ago was 41 - 45%. What is the context of these numbers. What is a "good" score and what isn't? Thanks in advance.
David,
Your numbers tell me you are doing pretty well and that you had a heart attack in the past. I think you should be very pleased with those numbers since they have not changed at all since your last echo. There are no good or bad scores how much blood your heart can pump is an indication of the condition of your heart.
What do ejection fraction numbers mean?
According to Penn Medicine.
55 to 70% – Normal heart function.
40 to 55% – Below normal heart function. Can indicate previous heart damage from heart attack or cardiomyopathy.
Higher than 75% – This can indicate a heart condition like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a common cause of sudden cardiac arrest.
Less than 40% – May confirm the diagnosis of heart failure.
You are welcome. I really should do a Monday Medical post on this since it affects so many of us.
@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member Thank you so much! I admit to total ignorance of this.
Since you cardiologist thinks you need a derfribrillator I would get one. I have had one since 2002 and most of the time I forget I even have it in me!
Really that sounds encouraging thank you
