An echocardiogram (echo) and a Doppler echocardiogram are both ultrasound-based tests used to examine the heart, but they have different focuses:

- Echocardiogram (Echo):
- Uses sound waves to create live images of the heart.
- Helps diagnose issues with the heart's chambers or valves.
- Evaluates systolic function (how the heart pumps) and diastolic function (how it relaxes).
- Common types include transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE).

- Doppler Echocardiogram:
- Uses colors to show blood flow through the heart and blood vessels.
- Measures the direction and speed of blood flow.
- Useful for diagnosing conditions like obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), where blood flow may be abnormal or blocked.

Both tests are noninvasive and provide valuable information about heart health.
