We have much better detection today with watches, rings, KardiaMobile and smart cuffs. I was not familiar with Afib when my FitBit started giving me 10 or more notices per day. I never had real symptoms. It may have been years before I asked my primary care doc. I had a full heart workup in 2010 & 2016. Neither mentioned or did any testing for Afib beyond EKG. If I wasn’t in active Afib I don’t think it would be noticed.

I wonder after reading the article is it just because more people go to the doctor now than in the past? No one really knows what causes Afib. However, it is always wise to do what you can to stay as healthy as possible for as long as possible.

"AFib is not entirely preventable, and the exact causes of many AFib cases remain unknown." This study begs the question, has this always been the case, have our methods and obsessions with detection perhaps overemphasized the condition?
