Any Experience With CHF And Tooth Extractions?
Has anyone who has CHF had
To have a tooth extracted?
Were there any complications?
Any infections that affected the heart?
Yes I've had 2 wisdom teeth out, on two separate occasions, by two different
dentists from the same clinic @ 2yrs ago. I was diagnosed with DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy), CHF, Atrial Fibrillation and other arrhythmias, @ 12yrs ago.
I had a CRT-D (Pacemaker/Defib implanted 5wks after diagnosis), and will be getting my third implanted in about 5mths time. This device has saved my life from a Sudden Cardiac Arrest on 4 occasions for which I am very grateful.
My dentist is very competent and never touches my teeth without me taking a short term antibiotic, because of my device, which has leads going directly into my heart.
I am also on the anti-coagulant, but I can't remember if I needed to stop that for the day prior or not.
I followed the dental instructions implicitly and had no complications whatsoever.
I trust my dentist completely, but I had unbearable nerve pain and the removal of those teeth was very necessary.
I think most people are nervous prior to an invasive procedure, and for me, especially with dentists, due to some dental trauma as a child, many moons ago. Any good dentist will ensure you are as comfortable as possible, but do discuss your concerns to ensure that they are fully aware.
Wishing you a smooth journey.
