Our country still has the resources and time to fix these real and serious problems if we had the resolve. If so many watch money withheld from their pay and don’t believe they will get their benefits, why do they keep voting for incumbents.

While there are many needy people helped by food banks, you might be surprised at how many arrive in luxury cars. I wonder how they vote.

I have asked a person or two about why they were applying for assistance when they were wearing cashmere and had wonderful cars as part of my past job as a eligibility technician (fancy name for a desk jockey.) Some have had great jobs then got sick or were fired and were up the creek because they were in such debt. Others inherited from rich relatives. Some had children who were ill or dying and the bills were overwhelming. Some were just creeps/frauds. You never know someone's story. The problem is not just Big Brother manipulating everything or corporate greed, nor your average gimmee mine, but that the general population has been sold a bill of goods about what it is to be American. It's not "stuff". It's the freedom to work where we want, to walk a street without being carded, to worship as we will, to have clean water. We have lost track. In the meantime the glitter of fool's gold (yes, Jim, all those freebies and someday tax cuts) keeps the masses pacified. Once the magician's trick is known the sleigh of hand becomes obvious but voting has turned into deciding between 2 devils and better the devil you know, I guess. My concern- it's all going to crack and those with chronic health problems will bear the brunt along with special segments of the population. We saw this with Covid and some of the radical health policies in the USA and other countries.

"why do they keep voting for incumbents?" Because "they" are promised something? Free food, housing, medical care, supplemental income? What people don't understand is there is no free. Priorities. One person might feel the luxury car is a priority, their income qualifies for assistance? Some shop food banks and leave large donations. Federal, State and local laws mandate that much food is wasted due to health codes. Government is a solution looking for a problem and if a problem doesn't exist it creates one?
