I have a very slight leaking valve. My cardiologist isn't too concern. However he will keep and eye on it.

@A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member I am glad you liked it! It was smart of you to have Hubby look at this. I think all of us can say that we don't look sick so we get treated as if we are not. It is difficult to help others understand how we feel. Hugs🤗

This was a wonderful post. I am going into the cath lab again on September 4th . Seems my mitral valve has gotten worse . My cardiologist is hoping he can staple three spots where it is leaking.
The explanation was wonderful. I had my husband watch, now he understands exactly what my issue is.
I find that because I do not look ill people are less apt to understand some of my limitations .
The more we educate ourselves we can better educate our family members .
Thank you for the video ,

Leaky heart valves are significant because they disrupt the normal flow of blood through the heart, leading to various complications:

- Blood Flow Issues: When valves are leaky, blood can flow backward instead of moving forward through the heart and to the rest of the body.
- Aortic Valve: If leaky, blood flows back into the heart instead of out to the body.
- Mitral Valve: If leaky, blood flows back into the lungs instead of to the heart.

- Ineffective Pumping: Leaky valves cause the heart to work harder to pump blood, which can lead to:
- Heart Failure: If untreated, the heart may eventually fail to pump blood effectively.
- Cardiomyopathy: The heart muscle may become larger and thicker to compensate for the ineffective pumping.

- Symptoms and Risks: Symptoms can include shortness of breath, fatigue, and swelling. If left untreated, leaky valves can lead to severe health issues.

Treatment Options:
- Valve Repair: Preferred to preserve heart tissue.
- Valve Replacement: Necessary if the valve is too damaged. Options include mechanical or biological valves.
