Gwen, you can check the accuracy by taking your pulse. Most blood pressure cuffs display pulse. My FitBit warned me of Afib. Even if less accurate than medical monitor it proved a valuable tool.

I just clicked on my heart rate from my smart watch. It says my heart rate is 63, resting rate. Are these watches accurate? I will be exercising in the morning and will check my heart rate again.

To understand your Resting Heart Rate (RHR), here are some key points based on my knowledge base:

Resting Heart Rate (RHR)
- Normal Range: A normal resting heart rate falls between 60 and 100 beats per minute (BPM).
- Measurement: To measure your heart rate, place the tips of your index and middle fingers on your neck under your jaw or on your wrist below the base of your thumb. Count the beats for 15 seconds and multiply by four to get your heart rate per minute. For more accuracy, do this three times and calculate an average.

Factors Affecting RHR
- Physical Fitness: An RHR under 60 BPM can indicate higher physical fitness.
- Monitoring: Wearable devices like fitness trackers or smartwatches can also track your heart rate, as can smartphone apps that detect your pulse through your finger.

Importance of Monitoring RHR
- Health Indicator: Regularly monitoring your heart rate can help you understand your heart health and detect any irregularities.
- Consult Your Doctor: Always talk to your doctor about tracking your heart rate so you know what to look out for based on your health needs.
