Ablation, or catheter ablation, is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat atrial fibrillation (AFib). Here are some key points about the procedure:

- Procedure: A small tube (catheter) is inserted into a blood vessel in the groin to reach the heart. A device uses heat (radiofrequency) or freezing (cryoablation) to create scars that disable areas of the heart muscle conducting abnormal signals.
- Risks: Infection, damage to blood vessels or the heart, blood clots, and radiation exposure.
- Success: It can be initially successful, but AFib may recur, requiring a repeat procedure or alternative treatments.
