What Is Meant By The Ejection Fraction Of The Heart?

A MyHeartDiseaseTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have seen so many questions lately about ejection fraction that I thought this video and the graphic I posted below might help us all understand ejection fraction better.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta from York Cardilolgy explains how ejection fraction is arrived at and the graphic in the first comment below is from Penn Medicine lists the percentages and what they mean. I hope everyone enjoys Dr. Gupta's explanation.

Very good video Mom. I found it interesting that Dr. Gupta stated that a MRI was the most precise and accurate method to measure EF. A Cardiologist diagnosed a borderline EF for me from an EKG but a MRI for a non heart issue determined a much higher EF. The cardiologist also diagnosed an enlarged heart BUT MRI report stated normal sized heart. Understand my anger with the medical industrial complex? Three different providers in the cardiology practice prescribed three different drugs during my first three visits. My adverse reactions to the drugs are listed with the drugs as side affects and mirror the symptoms of the condition they are prescribed to address. I didn't have the symptoms until starting the drugs. There's money to be made?

Irony Caryn, I went to my cardiologist few months ago for my annual check up, He did a lexi scan less than a year ago my ef was 63 Had a routine cardio echo for my electrophysiologist and he showed my ef to be like 45, cardiologist said he was way off and went into great detail explaining what the ef is/was, how it's obtained, etc. Said there is a lot of human error and don't put as much emphasis on it as I am.
