What The Results Of Wegovy’s Longest Clinical Trial Yet Show About Weight Loss, Side Effects And Heart Protection

“ The analyses – of a trial called Select, whose results showed last year that Wegovy significantly reduced heart risk in addition to helping with weight loss – also suggest that the drug may protect the heart in ways beyond weight loss alone, researchers said, raising new questions about how the wildly popular medicines in this drug class should be used – and covered by insurers.”

My husband and I have had great success with Ozempic and Trulicity. We also were prescribed Jardiance in April 2022 after my triple bypass surgery. My husband has lost 40 lbs. and I have lost 55 lbs. We both have more energy and go to the gym on M, W, and F. My A1C was 5.3 which is low normal. My doctor has kelp me on the same drugs because he said it had so many helpful heart benefits.

To add a few details. The doctor was aware of these meds, had samples but never told or offered them to the patient until they asked. After the positive results the insurance company resisted but the doctor did make an ongoing case and got approval.

The weight loss was comfortable and without much temptation. The patient was formally a light social drinker. After starting the med had no desire to drink even when offered.

A relative was pre diabetic which I understand is a step towards alzheimers. They have a “sweet tooth”/ sugar addiction and high blood pressure controled by meds. Their doctor tried several things but nothing worked without side effects. About 12 months ago they went on Mounjaro. Blood sugar is now under control without any other medication, A1C is better. Side effects … lost over 40 pounds, still going down and cravings are under control. Hoping blood pressure will respond to the weight loss. No negative reactions so far.

Their doctor never suggested this option. I spoke with a researcher / addiction specialist I know and asked if there were anything that could control sugar cravings. She suggested Ozempic. The doctor said there were supply problems and gave a 1 month sample of Mounjaro. The numbers showed it worked. It then took about 2 weeks to get insurance to approve coverage. And now Mounjaro is having supply issues.
