Is It Healthy To Drink A Glass Of Wine Every Day?

I’ve been a happy drinker since high school, drank too much in college then eventually settled into light regular drinking for the next forty some years. No medical issues we can blame on this. My wife has been on Mounjaro for about a year and is no longer considered pre diabetic. Two side effects are weight loss and diminished desire for wine and drink. When considering whether it's healthy to drink a glass of wine every day, especially with a history of regular drinking, it's important to weigh the pros and cons, particularly if you have heart disease. Here are some key points from my knowledge base:

- Moderate Drinking: Generally, moderate drinking is defined as up to one drink a day for women and up to two drinks a day for men. One drink means 12 ounces of beer, 4 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof spirits.
- Potential Benefits: Light to moderate drinking may help reduce inflammation and raise levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), the "good" cholesterol. It may also protect against hypertension (high blood pressure).
- Risks: Heavy drinking can lead to cardiomyopathy, heart failure, high blood pressure, increased risk of stroke, and obesity. Even if you don't drink frequently, binge drinking is dangerous.
- Personalized Advice: It's crucial to consult with your healthcare provider to determine if moderate alcohol consumption is safe for you, especially given your long history of drinking and any potential underlying health conditions.

Given your current situation of drinking less frequently and not feeling any negative effects, it seems like a positive change. Always prioritize your health and consult with your doctor for personalized advice.
